Kansas Health Foundation Announces Second Phase of Community Foundation Initiative
Kansas Health Foundation Announces Second Phase of Community Foundation Initiative
The Kansas Health Foundation has announced the second chapter of the Giving Resources to Our World (GROW) Healthy Kansas Initiative. By investing a total of $30 million in GROW II, the foundation seeks to assist many more community foundations across the state in building endowments, learning new financial management strategies, and exploring ways that foundations can work together to reduce expenses and raise the quality of their services.
The main goals of GROW II are to help more Kansas community foundations build permanent resources that will measurably improve the health of local residents, and to support collaboration and alliances among community foundations to ensure a well-managed and self-sufficient community foundation field in Kansas.
GROW II has three primary components: an endowment-building program, including matching grants and planning grants; a training and consulting support program; and a planning grants program.
Kansas community foundations may apply to participate in GROW II. Applicants must be certified as having met the Council on Foundations' national standards for community foundations (or pledge to gain certification by December 2010), have an annual operating budget of at least $75,000 for the previous year, and have a staff of at least one full-time equivalent. Applicants must also be a member of the Kansas Association of Community Foundations.
Community foundations can apply at three different times — September 30, 2009; September 1, 2010; and September 1, 2011 — but no earlier than July 1 of the year in which they are applying. Once accepted into the program, a community foundation has six years to earn its matching grant and complete the program.
Complete program guidelines, eligibility restrictions, and application are available at the Kansas Health Foundation Web site.
