Regence Foundation Announces New Program to Recognize Best Practices in Palliative Care
The Regence Foundation, the corporate foundation of the Regence Group, the largest health insurer in the Northwest/Intermountain region, has announced the launch of Sojourns, a program designed to help people with life-threatening and incurable illness access quality palliative care in their own community. The program's Pathway grants will support hospital-based programs in Idaho, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.
Grants target three phases: hospitals that need to plan a palliative care program, those that seek to implement a plan for a program, and those with a program that seek to expand it through partnerships with other community organizations.
Planning grants will provide nonprofit or public hospitals that have at least a hundred beds and do not offer a formal palliative care program up to $25,000 each for up to six months (Deadline: October 19, 2009). Implementation grants will provide nonprofit or public hospitals that have at least a hundred beds and do not offer a formal palliative care program, or whose PC program has been active or intermittent for two years or less, with up to $125,000 each annually for one to two years (proposals will be accepted between February 15, 2010, and May 14, 2010). Innovation grants will provide nonprofit or public hospitals or established hospital collaboratives that provide palliative care services and seek to close gaps in local systems of care through partnerships with other organizations in their community with $30,000 to $100,000 per partnership for up to two years (proposals accepted on a rolling basis beginning July 20, 2009, until available funding has been expended). Each type of grant is available through a separate Request for Proposals process.
