ASCO Cancer Foundation Announces Grants Opportunities for 2010
The ASCO Cancer Foundation supports educational programs of the highest quality in cancer care and prevention, facilitates the dissemination of information about cancer and cancer treatment to patients and their families, and, through its grants program, supports, encourages, and recognizes excellence in clinical research in the field of oncology.
The foundation is accepting applications for the following grant opportunities:
The Young Investigator Award provides funding to promising investigators to encourage and promote quality research in clinical oncology. The purpose of the award is to fund physicians during the transition from a fellowship program to a faculty appointment. Application submissions are welcome in all oncology sub-specialties. The total award amount is $50,000 for one year. (Full application deadline: September 9, 2009.)
The Career Development Award provides funding to clinical investigators who have received their initial faculty appointment to establish an independent clinical cancer research program. Application submissions are welcome in all oncology sub-specialties. The total award amount is $200,000 paid over three years. (Full application deadline: September 9, 2009.)
Supported by the Sarcoma Foundation of America, the Advanced Clinical Research Award in Sarcoma is designed to fund mid-career investigators who are committed to clinical cancer research and who wish to conduct original research not currently funded. Preference will be given to proposals involving therapeutic vaccine or immunotherapeutic approaches for sarcoma. The grant will provide $450,000 paid over three years. (Letter of intent deadline: August 6, 2009.)
Funded by Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Improving Cancer Care Grant will provide extramural research funding to address important issues regarding access to health care, quality of care, and delivery of care, with general applicability to breast cancer. The goal of the program is to encourage multi-disciplinary research that will have a major impact on cancer care, with general applicability in the breast cancer arena. Up to three research grants, each totaling $1.35 million dollars over three years, are expected to be awarded. (Letter of intent deadline: September 1, 2009.)
