Jewel-Osco Announces 2009 Hunger Relief Grant Program in Illinois and Indiana
For the second year, Grocery chain Jewel-Osco is inviting qualified food pantry programs and community soup kitchens to apply for capacity-building funding. Last year, the cpmpany's hunger relief grant program provided more than a hundred groups in Illinois and Indiana with money to buy refrigerators, shelving, sorting tables, and other equipment.
The program is conducted in cooperation with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the Northern Illinois Food Bank, and the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana.
To be eligible, an agency must be located in a Jewel-Osco customer service area in the following counties: Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will, Illinois; and Porter and Lake, Indiana. The applicant agency must be an active member of one of Feeding America food banks (formerly America's Second Harvest), including the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the Northern Illinois Food Bank, and the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana.
Eligible agencies can apply for grants of up to $2,500 each.
Visit the Jewel-Osco Web site for complete program information.
