North Carolina's Golden LEAF Foundation Announces New Open Grants Program
The Golden LEAF Foundation, a nonprofit organization established in 1999 to help transform North Carolina's economy with special emphasis on assisting communities in the state that are dependent on tobacco farming, economically distressed, and/or rural, has announced an Open Grants Program. The program will replace the foundation's Annual Grants Cycle and is designed to allow for acceptance of year-round proposals. The Open Grants Program also creates new procedures intended to make it easier for organizations to request funding.
The foundation focuses grantsmaking in three areas: agriculture, job creation and retention, and workforce preparedness. Proposals providing other opportunities to support and develop economic strength for target communities are also welcome. In light of the economic downturn, the foundation will be looking for projects that complement and leverage federal and state stimulus programs to increase the impact of its grantmaking.
Nonprofit organizations and governmental entities are eligible for Golden LEAF grants and are invited to attend informational sessions on the Open Grants Program.
The foundation will begin accepting requests for funding on July 1, 2009 for the Open Grants Program. Visit the Golden LEAF Web site for program guidelines and information briefings locations and dates.
