Bush Foundation Announces Categories and Informational Meetings for Artist Fellowship Program
Bush Foundation Announces Categories and Informational Meetings for Artist Fellowship Program
An annual program of the Bush Foundation, the Bush Artist Fellowship program supports artists in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota with significant financial and professional development support designed to enable them to further their work and encourage community dialogue.
The 2009 fellowships will be awarded in the following five categories: 1) Literary Arts, for writers who work in all genres of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and experimental forms; 2) Script Works, for playwrights and screenwriters; 3) Performance-Based Work, for performing artists who create original work (write and/or direct) for live performance, including choreography, performance art, original storytelling, spoken-word, puppetry, movement/physical performance, multi-disciplinary, and devised theatrical works; 4) Music Composition, for composers who work in a range of genres such as jazz, blues, chamber, symphonic, electronic, experimental, and/or as singer/songwriters; and 5) Traditional & Ethnic Performing Arts, for artists working in a performance tradition characteristic of their ethnic, religious, linguistic, occupational and/or regional group, including music, dance, and storytelling.
The program will provide up to fifteen artists with unrestricted grants of $48,000 each distributed over twelve to twenty-four month periods. In addition, fellows will receive up to $2,000 each to plan and implement an individual communications strategy. Artists may use a fellowship to explore new directions, continue work already in progress, or accomplish work not financially feasible otherwise.
Applications are invited from qualified artists who are residents of Minnesota, North Dakota, or South Dakota and are U.S. citizens or permanent residents; have lived in one of the eligible states at least twenty-four months immediately prior to the application deadline; and are at least 25 years old on the application deadline.
Deadlines are as follows: November 7, 2008, for Literary Arts and Script Works; and November 14, 2008, for Performance-Based Work, Music Composition, and Traditional & Ethnic Performing Arts.
Public information meetings are held each year in September and October to provide potential applicants with an opportunity to learn more about the program and ask questions. See the foundation's Web site for the complete schedule of meeting dates and locations as well as program guidelines.
