Lance Armstrong Foundation Releases Request for Proposals for Cancer Research and Community Grants Programs

Lance Armstrong Foundation Releases Request for Proposals for Cancer Research and Community Grants Programs

The Lance Armstrong Foundation offers community and research grants to empower the cancer community to address the unmet needs of cancer survivors.

Through its community program, the foundation awards grants to community-based nonprofit organizations to serve the needs of people living with cancer as identified by the National Action Plan for Cancer Survivorship: Advancing Public Health Strategies. Through its research grants program, the foundation seeks to facilitate the development of significant improvements in cancer survivors' quality of life.

LAF is offering the following grant types during the 2008 grant cycle:

Community Grants: LAF is offering one-, two-, or three-year grants for up to $150,000 each. Applications will be considered in either of two areas of cancer survivorship: 1) evidence-based interventions; and 2) education for healthcare professionals. The Community Program will only fund nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations located in and serving the United States and/or U.S. territories. Access to the online Letter of Intent Process will be available beginning January 28, 2008. Letters of Intent must be submitted by March 24, 2008.

Research Grants: General research grants are intended to support the early stages of survivorship research projects in order to facilitate subsequent funding from other sources. LAF will offer General Research Grants of up to $75,000 a year for up to three years to support research projects initiated by established investigators, and will award Young Investigator research grants of up to $50,000 a year for up to two years to support career development in the field of cancer survivorship research.

Applicants’ primary affiliation must be with a nonprofit institution. Proposed research must focus on physical, emotional, and/or practical issues that cancer survivors experience due to cancer and/or cancer treatment. Please note that LAF does not fund clinical trials of cancer treatment therapies. Access to the online Letter of Intent Process will be available beginning February 4, 2008. Letters of Intent must be submitted by March 14, 2008.

The complete Request for Proposals for the Community Grants and Research Grants are available at the LAF Web site.
