The American India Foundation is inviting qualified individuals to apply for its newly
launched AIF India Medicorps fellowship.
In line with its broader Public Health HIV/AIDS program
strategy, AIF launched Medicorps on World AIDS Day 2005 to
connect U.S.-based healthcare professionals with recipient
institutions in India to expand the overall medical
responsiveness to the HIV/AIDS crisis.
AIF calls for applications from U.S.-based healthcare
professionals wanting to make a meaningful difference in
India with their professional expertise. Medicorps offers
that opportunity provided the following qualifications are
met: 1) five-plus years' work experience; 2) currently
employed in public or private practice; and 3) willing to
offer his/her services pro bono to Indian institutions.
Applicants with HIV/AIDS-related expertise infectious
disease specialists, epidemiologists, social workers, public
health professionals, nurse practioners, etc. are
encouraged to apply.
Every effort will be made to match the fellows' specific
skills with the corresponding needs of host institutions
in India. AIF will arrange for all expenses related to
travel, boarding, and lodging.
Medicorps positions are short-term opportunities of one- to
four-week durations. Placements for the inaugural year will
commence between April and June 2006 and between November
and December 2006. Medicorps placements can be anywhere in
India. Proposed sites include Gujarat, Andra Pradesh,
Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Assam. Placements may involve
travel to more than one site.
