National Children's Alliance Offers Funding for Children's Advocacy Centers
National Children's Alliance Offers Funding for Children's Advocacy Centers
The National Children's Alliance
is a nationwide not-for-profit membership organization whose
mission is to promote and support communities in providing
a coordinated investigation and comprehensive response to
victims of severe child abuse. NCA-accredited members are
Children's Advocacy Centers.
Children's Advocacy Centers (CACs) stress coordination of
investigation and intervention services by bringing together
professionals and agencies as a multidisciplinary team to
create a child-focused approach to child abuse cases.
NCA, under a cooperative agreement with the Office of
Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, U.S. Department
of Justice, will administer $8.27 million in federal funds
for the establishment and expansion of CACs during the
2006 calendar year. Funding and implementation assistance
is provided by NCA with the overall goal of aiding
communities across the United States in their efforts to
implement the children's advocacy center model.
In order to be considered for a NCA grant, applicants must
have a written and signed memorandum of understanding or
interagency agreement between law enforcement, social
services, medical and mental health, prosecution, and other
related agencies to coordinate child abuse investigation,
prosecution, and treatment; be committed to establishing an
NCA full-member CAC that meets the needs of abused children
for support and protection in a safe and comfortable
environment; and establish a public or private not-for-profit
entity to receive and administer these grant funds and have
a task force or steering committee with representatives of
law enforcement, social services, prosecution, and medical
and mental health providers.
NCA offers several different categories of grant funding
that programs may apply for depending on membership status.
Grants to non-member programs are competitive and include
training grants and program development grants. The
competitive applications deadline for FY 2007 funding is
September 8, 2006. The non-competitive applications
deadline for FY 2007 funding is October 6, 2006.
