On the Web - Next Avenue
To provide reliable information to adults experiencing the life stage that lies somewhere between young adulthood and "old-old" adulthood.
A project of the Public Broadcasting Service, Next Avenue is an online platform that provides resources and tools to adults over the age of 50 who are planning for the next phase of their lives. The site is designed to help users as they navigate the physical, health, work, and financial shifts that accompany this stage. Support for the Next Avenue site is provided by the Atlantic Philanthropies, Medtronic, and the Helen Bader, General Mills, Land O'Lakes, and Mardag foundations, while content is provided by both in-house contributors and content media partners, including American Public Television, the National Educational Telecommunications Association, and Huff/Post50.
Outstanding Web Features:
Visitors to the Next Avenue site can browse articles, multimedia, and discussions by topic, including health and well-being, money and security, work and purpose, living and learning, and caregiving. Each topic page includes a toolbox and resources for goal setting. The site also features a video channel, which is organized by subject or popularity, and links to Next Avenue's social networking profiles on Facebook, Twitter, and
LinkedIn. In addition, visitors to the site can pitch an idea for a blog post or article and register to receive Next Avenue's weekly e-newsletters.
