On the Web - National Women's History Museum

Mission:
To affirm the value of knowing women's history, illuminate the role of women in transforming society, and encourage all people to participate in democratic dialogue about the future.

Background:
Founded in 1996 by Karen Staser, the National Women's History Museum researches, collects, and exhibits the contributions of women in America. The museum, which is working to secure a permanent home on or near the National Mall, hopes that by sharing the breadth of women's experiences and accomplishments to the widest possible audience, it will encourage all people to advance with respect, equal confidence, greater partnership, and opportunity.

Outstanding Web Features:
The NWHM Web site includes an interactive online game, Progressive Era Women; online exhibits, with accompanying podcasts, such as Claiming Their Citizenship: African American Women From 1624-2009, Rights for Women: The Suffrage Movement and Its Leaders, and Women in Early Film; and detailed biographies of pioneering women. The site also features education and resources, including a collection of women's history quotations, classroom tools for educators (registration required), and women's history quizzes.
