On the Web - Open Studio

Mission:
To make contemporary arts education accessible to teachers and classrooms across the nation and around the world.

Background:
Created by Los Angeles artist Mark Bradford, who received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2009, Open Studio is the inaugural project of the Getty Artists Program. It provides K-12 teachers with access to contemporary arts education teaching materials.

Outstanding Web Features:
Open Studio presents a collection of art-making activities that were submitted by notable national and international artists. Instructions for activities such as creating a photographic story about how you live or taking a color walk are offered online or as a free, downloadable PDF. Each art-making prompt includes the artist's biography and images of the artist and their work. Site visitors can search for an activity by grade level, medium, or artist. In addition, visitors can watch this video with Mark Bradford to learn more about the project.
