Mission:
To offer fire protection for residents of a 155-square-mile area of Contra Costa County, California.

Background:
The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District got its start at a March 1912 meeting of the Danville Improvement Club and became an independent fire district and a political subdivision of the state of California in 1921. Most recently expanded in 1997, the department covers the communities of Alamo, Blackhawk, Danville, Diablo, San Ramon, the southern boundary of Morgan Territory, and the Tassajara Valley. The district has 185 full-time employees and 50 volunteers.

Outstanding Web Features:
A 2010 Webby Award nominee for best government Web site, the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District site offers streaming dispatch radio, live incident data, two live cameras of the region, an iPhone app offering real-time access to emergency activity, Twitter streams for each community, and downloadable fire prevention resources. The site also offers video and photo galleries and a Kids Corner featuring fire safety games.
