On the Web - Let's Breakthrough
To use the power of popular culture, media, leadership development, and community education to transform public attitudes and advance equality, justice, and dignity.
Outstanding Web Features:
Let's Breakthrough uses media, games, videos, and music as tools to help transform public attitudes to global issues such as human rights, violence against women, sexuality and HIV/AIDS, religion and peace, and racial and immigrant rights.
Issues of human rights are addressed in Homeland Guantanamos, an online video game and advocacy site created to bring attention to the harsh conditions immigrants face at detention centers established by the Department of Homeland Security, and I Can End Deportation (ICED), an online game that teaches teens about immigration laws and deportation. Visitors to the site can check out a Restore Fairness documentary, which calls on the U.S. government to restore due process and fairness to our immigration system; the "Oops I Did It Again" comic strip, which depicts two women talking about the AIDS epidemic and safe sex in a quiet bookstore in Mumbai; and the "Why Can't America Have Human Rights?" music video, which explores the issue of human rights in the U.S. Visitors can also participate in the Bell Bajao campaign, which encourages men and boys to refrain from domestic violence. All videos available on the site are supported by the social media platform Vimeo. In addition, visitors can connect with the organization through its blog and various social networking sites, including Facebook and Twitter.
