On The Web - Herdict Web

Mission:
To gain insight into what users around the world experience in terms of Web accessibility.

Background:
Herdict Web — a blending of 'herd' and 'verdict' — is a project of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. The brainchild of Professor Jonathan Zittrain, the site builds on the successes of the OpenNet Initiative. While OpenNet views Internet filtering through an academic lens, Herdict uses crowdsourcing to learn about and present a real-time view of Web site accessibility.

Outstanding Web Features:
Herdict enables visitors to explore sites that are reported as inaccessible and presented on a Herdometer map powered by Google. Visitors submit a report, and their PC information (location, IP address, and browser version) is collected and stored in Herdict Web's database. Herdict also offers a Web Ticker widget and RSS feed, a blog, and a Twitter feed.
