To bring together experts in theory, policy, and practice to share their diverse perspectives on pressing domestic issues.
Background:
A project of Common Good, a coalition working to restore reliability to the U.S. legal system, NewTalk is an online forum that presents nonpartisan discussions by small groups of experts on America's most pressing issues in fields such as the economy, education, and health care. Each discussion focuses on z specific question over a period of up to three days, with one participant acting as moderator. Through such discussions, NewTalk hopes to build an informed dialogue built on a "clean slate" approach that leads to progress and reform.
Outstanding Web Features:
Visitors to the NewTalk Web site can search an archive of past discussions by keyword or browse by idea or topic, including the economy, education, the environment, health care, justice, and society. Experts who have participated in previous discussions include New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, Yale University adjunct professor of law E. Donald Elliott, and Peter G. Peterson Foundation president and CEO David Walker. The site also offers a list of upcoming discussions, an RSS feed, and a blog.
