University of Connecticut Receives $7.5 Million From GE for Advanced Technology Research

The University of Connecticut in Storrs has announced a five-year, $7.5 million commitment from GE in support of advanced technology research.

The funding includes $3.5 million to conduct, in partnership with GE, research and development on core electrical-protection technologies, including circuit breakers; $2.7 million for graduate fellowships and undergraduate scholarships; and $1.5 million to endow a GE professorship at the university's School of Engineering. Geared to advancing GE's circuit breaker product lines, the research will focus on arc-plasma containment, electrical materials, magnetic and mechanical systems, and advanced manufacturing technologies.

The research also will support the activities of the new state-funded UConn Technology Park, which is in development. Once completed, the park, along with UConn's new Eminent Faculty Program, will help to nurture innovation and job development across the technology industry.
