Birmingham Foundation Awards $1.3 Million to Pittsburgh Nonprofits

The Pittsburgh-based Birmingham Foundation has awarded grants totaling $1.3 million to twenty-eight nonprofit and health and human service organizations, the South Pittsburgh Reporter reports.

In its fifteenth year of grantmaking, the foundation awarded twenty-one grants to improve youth outcomes. Recipients include the Isaiah Project (two grants totaling $100,000), the Lighthouse Cathedral's Youth Enrichment Program ($90,000), and the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's Hilltop LYNCS (Library in Your Neighborhood, Community and School) early learning initiative ($20,000).

The foundation also awarded five grants to projects focused on enhancing health outcomes in the region. Recipients include the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank ($50,000) and Mission Vision, Inc. ($12,000) for its Vision of Hope Mobile Eye Clinic. In addition, four grants were awarded in the area of neighborhood development strategy. Recipients include the Brashear Association ($100,000) in support of its comprehensive community services and the Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council ($20,000).
