Carnegie Corporation of New York Awards $14.85 Million in Grants

The Carnegie Corporation of New York has announced seventeen grants totaling more than $14.8 million.

Through its international program, the New York City-based foundation awarded six grants, including a final award of $5.45 million over sixty-six months to the American Council of Learned Services for humanities fellowships in Africa; a $500,000 grant over two years to the American Councils for International Education in Washington, D.C., for a Center for Advanced Study and Education (CASE) project on social transformations in the western Eurasia border region; and a two-year, $300,000 award to the National Committee on American Foreign Policy in New York City for a multilateral dialogue on North Korea.

The foundation awarded nine grants through its national program, including $875,000 over two years to the New Tech Network in Napa, California, to help integrate blended learning components in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) courses; more than $1 million to Teach for America for the development of a STEM-focused campaign and a research 2.0 agenda; and $450,000 to the Aspen Institute in Washington, D.C., for its Congressional program's Project on Education Reform.

And through its external affairs program, the foundation awarded $1 million to the Greater Washington Educational Telecommunications Association in support of the PBS Newshour's 2012 election coverage. In addition, the American Library Association in Washington, D.C., received a grant of $300,000 over thirty-two months for two new annual literary prizes, the Andrew Carnegie Medals for Fiction and Nonfiction.
