Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan Announces $1 Million Challenge to Area Arts Groups

The Detroit-based Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan has announced a $1 million challenge to stimulate giving to arts and cultural organizations in the region, with the goal of helping arts groups raise $3 million in sorely needed operating funds.

The foundation, which is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary this year, launched the Community Foundation Challenge — Arts & Culture in partnership with the Cultural Alliance of Southeastern Michigan. Starting August 18, donors can go online to make gifts of between $25 and $10,000 to participating alliance members. The foundation will provide $1 for every $2 a participating organization receives, up to $200,000.

"For twenty-five years, the community foundation has supported arts and cultural organizations in southeast Michigan as part of our mission to improve the lives of all who live and work in the region," said foundation president Mariam C. Noland. "Arts and cultural organizations are essential to our quality of life. They touch our lives every day; they educate us, challenge us, show us who we are and who we can become. And right now, they urgently need our help."
