Community Foundation of Broward Receives $12 Million Bequest

The Community Foundation of Broward in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has announced that Motherhood Maternity founder Mary Mackenzie has left nearly her entire estate, worth an estimated $12 million, to the foundation.

The gift from Mackenzie, who passed away this summer at the age of 89, will be used to establish the Mary and Alex Mackenzie Community Impact Fund. The foundation currently manages more than 350 charitable funds and agency endowments representing more than $90 million. Since it was established in 1984, the foundation has distributed more than $40 million to local nonprofits to meet critical needs and help improve the quality of life in Broward County.

"We are so honored that Mary Mackenzie chose to partner with the community foundation," said foundation president and CEO Linda Carter. "She trusted the community foundation to be the steward of her estate by identifying creative efforts that make Broward a more vibrant community. This fund will allow her and her core values to make a difference forever."
