PND - Girls Best Friend Foundations Awards $600,000 in Grants
The Chicago-based Girl's Best Friend Foundation has awarded more than $600,000 to support innovative programming designed to benefit girls and young women in the state of Illinois.
In recent months, more than seventy organizations have received funding from the eight-year-old foundation to provide programs that build on the strengths of girls and empower them to make decisions. The recipient organizations offer programs that reflect the diversity of rural, urban, and suburban communities in Illinois.
Recipients benefitting from the two most recent rounds of grantmaking include Alternatives, Inc., a Chicago-based program that provides mentoring, athletics, and leadership development to girls and young women; the Health Resource Center for Women with Disabilities, which offers mentoring services to teenage girls with disabilities; the Music Theatre Workshop, which is expanding a program that helps girls at a juvenile detention center write and perform plays; and the Public Policy Institute at the College of Dupage, which operates a program that encourages high school girls to become public policy advocates.
