AstraZeneca HealthCare Foundation Awards $4.4 Million in Grants

The Delaware-based AstraZeneca HealthCare Foundation has announced $4.4 million in grants to twenty-two organizations working to improve cardiovascular health in local communities.

Grants ranging from $150,000 to $256,460 were awarded through the foundation's Connections for Cardiovascular Health program. Recipients include the Allegiance Health Foundation in Jackson, Michigan, for effort to identify cardiovascular health risks among uninsured and underinsured workers and provide them with resources to assist in risk reduction, education, disease management, and the development of healthy lifestyles; Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department in Wisner, Nebraska, which is working to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease and increase health screening opportunities among agricultural laborers; and Flagstaff Medical Center in Arizona, for efforts to reduce morbidity and mortality rates and improve wellness by identifying, screening, and educating community members at risk of developing diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

"Cardiovascular disease continues to be the nation's number one killer, which is why we must work to decrease the risks of this devastating disease," said AstraZeneca HealthCare Foundation board chair James W. Biasetto. "The AstraZeneca HealthCare Foundation is proud to provide funding to innovative, grassroots programs across the country working to help prevent and control the effects of cardiovascular disease in their communities."
