Healthcare Georgia Foundation Announces $1.17 Million in Grants

Healthcare Georgia Foundation Announces $1.17 Million in Grants

The Healthcare Georgia Foundation has announced grants totaling nearly $1.2 million to thirty organizations and programs working to improve the health and health care of Georgians.

Awarded as part of the foundation's new strategic focus on access, cost, and quality, the grants include $115,000 to Community Evaluations Solutions to launch a two-phase evaluation of the foundation's capacity-building program; $80,000 to the North Central Health District to enhance existing maternal and infant care programs focused on breastfeeding, safe-sleep practices, and prevention of unintentional injuries among high-risk underserved populations; $48,000 to the Good Samaritan Health Center of Gwinnett for its efforts to achieve National Committee for Quality Assurance recognition as a patient-centered medical home; and $31,000 to HealthMPowers to adapt and expand its comprehensive school health intervention program through the use of distance-learning technology.

The foundation also awarded $46,000 to the Tanner Medical Center to provide comprehensive diabetes health education to its in-patients, targeting vulnerable populations experiencing health disparities; and $10,000 to Avatar Communications to initiate planning for Connections 2014, the foundation's conference for its grantees and partner organizations.

"We are pleased with our decision to further strengthen the health safety net, sharpen the focus of our grantmaking on achievement of measureable health outcomes with the assistance of our Evaluation Resource Center, enhance the quality of Georgia's public health system, and contribute to Georgia's engagement in health policy development," said Healthcare Georgia Foundation president Gary D. Nelson. "Our philanthropic efforts will now be challenged to address the emerging issues of access, cost, and quality, as Georgia determines its direction in health reform."
