Carnegie Hall Receives $10 Million Gift for Renovation Project

Carnegie Hall Receives $10 Million Gift for Renovation Project

Carnegie Hall has announced a $10 million gift from Judith and Burton Resnick in support of the Studio Towers Renovation Project.

The gift will help fund efforts to create new spaces for music education on the storied venue's upper floors and fully refurbish its backstage areas; the project is scheduled to be completed in 2014. To be named the Judith B. and Burton P. Resnick Education Wing in recognition of the gift and the Resnick family's longtime support, the 61,000-square-foot space will include new ensemble rooms, practice rooms, and teaching studios as well as a state-of-the-art home for the hall's archives.

Burton Resnick has been a member of the Carnegie Hall board since 1988 and has served as vice chair since 2010. He also chairs the Building Committee, which has oversight over all major capital projects at Carnegie Hall. Judy Resnick has been a member of Carnegie Hall's Special Events Committee for more than two decades. The couple's latest gift brings to more than $205 million the amount raised for the $224 million renovation project.

"We strongly believe in the importance of music education, and we are very proud to be associated with both the hall's new education center and the innovative programs of Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute that will find a home there," the Resnicks said in a statement. "We know that this new space will inspire our city's children and music lovers of all ages for generations to come."
