Newman's Own Foundation Awards $2.4 Million to Public Broadcasting Stations

The Newman's Own Foundation in Farmington, Connecticut, has announced $2.4 million in two-year grants to thirteen public broadcasting stations and organizations.

The grants are part of an ongoing commitment by the foundation to support open dialogue and promote civic engagement. To date, giving by Newman's Own in support of public broadcasting totals nearly $10 million. The most recent round of grants will be used to generate increased donor support through station-specific challenge grants and fund special programming and projects. One such project is National Public Radio's Military Voices Initiative, which aims to record and broadcast the experiences of military personnel, veterans, and their families.

Grant recipients include American Public Media/Minnesota Public Radio, Connecticut Public Broadcasting, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the Detroit Educational Television Foundation, and National Public Radio.

"Paul Newman believed that the independent voice played a critical role in making our world a better place," said Newman's Own Foundation president Robert Forrester. "He was a strong supporter of public broadcasting, and we are proud to maintain that support for today and into the future."
