Alaska

The Seward Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Alaska Community Foundation, has announced that it will make a total of $56,000 available to area nonprofits in 2013, an increase of about $26,000 over last year's total, the Seward City News reports. Applications for grants are being accepted through March 1, with proposals for mini-grants of up to $500 accepted on a rolling basis.

Michigan

The Kalamazoo Community Foundation has announced the appointment of James Escamilla to its board. Escamilla, president and CEO of design engineering/architecture firm Byce & Associates Inc., has experience in system evaluation and conceptual design, and has worked with clients in the educational, healthcare, industrial, correctional, and commercial spaces.

The Canton Community Foundation has announced the planned departure of its president, Joan Noricks, the Canton Observer reports. Noricks, who has led the foundation for nearly twenty years, made the announcement at the foundation's Magical Night with the Stars fundraising event but did not give a departure date.

Mississippi

The Greater PineBelt Community Foundation in Hattiesburg has announced a $10,000 grant to the ARC of the Pine Belt Region, WHLT.com reports. Awarded with funds from the John Morris Family in memory of their daughter, the grant will be used by the organization to hire a part-time executive director.

Ohio

The Dayton Foundation has announced the appointment of David T. Miller to its board. Miller, vice president of finance and CFO of Dayton Children's, has been a member of the foundation's finance committee since 2004 and has more than thirty years' experience in the fields of finance and health care.

The B.A. Seitz Fund of the Columbus Foundation has announced grants totaling more than $33,000 to nonprofits serving Seneca County. Grant recipients include the Christian Counseling Center, which was awarded a grant to provide counseling services for youth; Fish of Tiffin, which received a grant to provide food to disadvantaged families with children; and Seneca County Agency Transportation, which was awarded a grant to offer passenger assistance to Tiffin children.

The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has announced grants totaling more than $1.3 million in seven grantmaking areas — education success, health and wellness, economic opportunity, cultural vibrancy, environmental stewardship, job creation, and strong communities.

Oregon

The Portland-based Oregon Community Foundation has announced a $5,000 grant to Sherwood Heights Elementary School in support of a school readiness program, KNDO.com reports. The school will work in partnership with Project Ready to Learn to launch an effort aimed at providing transition programs, early childhood training, and parent education aimed at preparing early learners for kindergarten.

Washington

The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation and the Raikes Foundation have announced the selection of six new nonprofit partners to join their Youth Program Quality Initiative for Pierce County, bringing to twelve the total number of organizations working as part of the initiative to strengthen the quality of afterschool youth programs in the region.
