Arizona Community Foundation Awards $9 Million in Grants

The Arizona Community Foundation in Phoenix has announced 976 grants totaling nearly $9 million to nonprofit organizations in the state.

Between October 1 and December 31, the foundation allocated the largest share of its third-quarter grant dollars — more than $3.16 million — to education initiatives. Organizations receiving grants included Teach for America and Stand for Children, an advocacy group working to develop high-performing schools nationwide. The foundation also awarded grants totaling more than $3 million in the area of health innovations and more than $1 million in support of arts and culture initiatives. Recipients in the latter category include the Sedona Visual Arts Coalition, Patagonia Montessori Elementary School, and Free Arts of Arizona.

In addition, the foundation awarded almost $400,000 in grants to organizations and programs in the areas of environmental education, renewable resources, conservation, and animal welfare. Grant recipients in that category include Friends for Life Animal Rescue in Gilbert, the Oak Creek Watershed Council, and Red Rock State Park. And it awarded a total of almost $390,00 in support of community improvement and development initiatives, including a grant to Compass Affordable Housing in Tucson to convert a motor hotel into an eighty-unit affordable rental community for low-income families.
