NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Receives $25 Million to Launch Pediatrician Scholars Program

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Receives $25 Million to Launch Pediatrician Scholars Program

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has announced a $25 million gift from trustee Arthur Samberg and his wife, Rebecca, to launch a scholars program at its Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital.

The Samberg Scholars in Children's Health program will enable up to forty pediatricians or pediatric subspecialists to conduct children's health research. Qualified physicians must have demonstrated excellence in patient care and meet additional criteria in leadership and teaching, among other skills.

Announced at a ceremony last week at NewYork-Presbyterian, the ten scholars selected for the program's first cohort are all pediatricians at the children's hospital and faculty members at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. They include child abuse and neglect specialist Jocelyn Brown, urologist Pasquale Casale, general pediatrician Patricia Hametz, rheumatologist Lisa Imundo, rehabilitation medicine specialist Heakyung Kim, nephrologist Fangming Lin, general pediatrician Steven Paik, orthopaedic surgeon David Roye, Jr., adolescent-medicine specialist Karen Soren, and orthopaedic surgeon Michael Vitale.

"For years, the Samberg family has been a steadfast supporter of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and a strong advocate for patient- and family-centered children's health," said Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital CEO Steven J. Corwin. "This latest gift promises to be transformational for children's health care at our hospital and beyond. We're immensely grateful to Art, Becky, and the entire Samberg family for their commitment, generosity, and trust."
