Knight Foundation Invests $2 Million to Expand Global Entrepreneurship Program

Knight Foundation Invests $2 Million to Expand Global Entrepreneurship Program

The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation has announced a $2 million investment to bring Endeavor, a global organization working to build communities of high-impact entrepreneurs and innovators, to the United States.

The funding will be used to launch the organization's first U.S. affiliate in Miami, making it possible by late 2013 for local entrepreneurs to apply to become Endeavor Entrepreneurs. Selected for their ability to drive innovation, maximize wealth and job creation, and serve as role models, Endeavor Entrepreneurs will receive access to mentors and a volunteer advisory board of local business leaders; a range of international networks and Endeavor affiliate offices on five continents; interns from top business schools and professional service firms; and invitations to exclusive educational programs, including a specialized course at Stanford's Graduate School of Business.

Headquartered in New York City, Endeavor currently supports more than seven hundred and fifty entrepreneurs from over four hundred companies in fourteen countries.

"There is great momentum in Miami's startup community, but it is still harder than it should be for entrepreneurs to build their ideas here," said Matt Haggman, Miami program director for the Knight Foundation. "Endeavor will address this challenge, bringing an unprecedented level of support, learning opportunities, and connections for Miami's diverse group of entrepreneurs. This is a cornerstone of our effort to make Miami more of a place where ideas are built."
