$100 Million in Pledges Announced at Clinton Foundation's Health Matters Conference

$100 Million in Pledges Announced at Clinton Foundation's Health Matters Conference

The William J. Clinton Foundation has announced thirty-one pledges totaling more than $100 million in support of disease prevention made during the second annual Health Matters: Activating Wellness in Every Generation conference.

Organizations announcing commitments at the conference included the Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai, which pledged to launch a public awareness campaign designed to empower women to advocate for their own heart health; Direct Relief International and medical technology company BD, which pledged to address immediate resource needs related to diabetes by deploying medical supplies and developing a knowledge base for future solutions; and the City of Coachella in California, which pledged to implement community wellness activities that support residents' and city workers' health and well-being.

Launched last November, the Clinton Health Matters Initiative aims to improve the health and well-being of Americans by motivating individuals, communities, and organizations to implement evidence-based systems and environmental and investment strategies that help reduce the prevalence of preventable diseases, lower health care costs associated with those diseases, and improve the quality of life for Americans. This year's event drew more than four hundred stakeholders from the fields of health care, public policy, business, education, wellness, and sports to discuss key issues including access to healthy lifestyles, healthy communities, mental health, and addiction.

"I am grateful to all of this year's participants in the Health Matters conference, especially those who made pledges to improve health and wellness throughout the United States," said former President Bill Clinton. "These pledges of more than $100 million will impact more than twenty-five million people. I look forward to their implementation."
