Dayton Foundation Awarded $22 Million in Grants in Second Half of 2012

The Dayton Foundation has announced that it awarded nearly $22.2 million in grants in the second half of 2012, including $135,000 in discretionary grants to local nonprofits in the areas of the arts, economic development, education, health, and human services.

The latest round of discretionary grants included $30,000 to the Human Race Theatre Company in support of efforts to attract and engage new and existing audiences through new marketing strategies; $25,000 to FilmDayton to help promote the Dayton area as a destination for film and television production companies; $25,000 to the YMCA of Greater Dayton to fund a free afterschool childhood obesity prevention program; and $10,000 to Dayton Crayons to Classrooms to help expand the organization's services and provide basic school supplies for students in need.

Other recipients of discretionary grants include the Good Neighbor House ($25,000), which will use the funds to renovate its facilities and expand dental and nutrition services for the underserved; House of Bread ($15,000), for renovations enabling it to provide nutritious lunches to more individuals in need; Hospice of Dayton Foundation ($10,000), for a new garden for its campus; and the Kettering Parks Foundation ($10,000), for construction of the Charles Kettering History Walk and the creation of a teacher resource Web site.
