Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky Announces 2012 Grants Totaling $1.9 Million

Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky Announces 2012 Grants Totaling $1.9 Million

The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky has announced that it awarded thirty-one grants totaling more than $1.9 million in 2012 to community-based organizations, healthcare providers, universities, and health advocacy groups.

The largest grants were awarded to partners in the Kentucky Healthy Futures Initiative, which is supported by the foundation's grant from the Obama administration's Social Innovation Fund; recipients of the re-granted funds, each of whom received $250,000, include Cumberland Family Medical Center, Home of the Innocents, and the Meade Activity Center.

Grants awarded through the Promoting Responsive Health Policy initiative include a data grant of $60,000 to the University of Kentucky Research Foundation in support of the http://www.kentuckyhealthfacts.org Web site. In addition, the foundation awarded $124,000 through its Investing in Kentucky's Future initiative to the University of Virginia Center for Survey Research for the inaugural Kentucky Parent Survey. In 2013, the foundation will select communities to receive multiyear support under the initiative, which is aimed at reducing chronic disease risk factors for school-aged children.

"Despite volatility in the marketplace, we were able to dedicate significant resources to organizations that are working to make Kentucky a healthier place to live, work, and play," said the foundation's president and CEO, Susan Zepeda. "These projects and programs have a positive impact on people's lives throughout the commonwealth and help us achieve our mission of addressing the unmet healthcare needs of Kentuckians."
