Luzerne Foundation Awards $11 Million to Pennsylvania Nonprofits

Luzerne Foundation Awards $11 Million to Pennsylvania Nonprofits

The Luzerne Foundation in Luzerne, Pennsylvania, has announced grants totaling nearly $11 million to fifteen local nonprofits, the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader reports.

While the community foundation did not disclose individual grant amounts, it did release the names of the recipients. They include the Riverfront Parks Committee, the Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce, the Foundation for Free Enterprise Education, Catherine McAuley House, Camp Orchard Hill, and the Commission on Economic Opportunity. Since it was established in 1994, the foundation has awarded more than $40 million in grants to nonprofit organizations in the region.

"We obviously look at who has an impact on the community," said Luzerne Foundation president and CEO Charles Barber. "We have limited resources, and we want to provide assistance to a variety of organizations and also organizations and programs that will benefit a broad range of people."

Quick, Amanda. “Foundation Gives $11M in Grants.” Times Leader 12/19/12.
