Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Awards $3.6 Million in Roadmaps to Health Community Grants

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has awarded grants totaling $3.6 million to eighteen local coalitions nationwide working to make their communities healthier places to live, learn, work, and play.

Two-year grants of up to $200,000 each were awarded through the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps program, a collaboration of RWJF and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, to coalitions of leaders in government, business, education, health care, public health, and community organizations to help create changes in policies and systems which address a range of factors, including educational opportunity and attainment, that affect health. The grants will be managed by Community Catalyst, a Boston-based nonprofit advocacy organization.

Projects receiving funds include an initiative in Salt Lake City to create a comprehensive early learning system for children from birth to the age of five and to advocate for statewide adoption of early education standards and school readiness programs; a project in Manchester, New Hampshire, to help three public schools collaborate with organizations that provide social supports to children and families; efforts in Colorado Springs to establish a coordinated system of care for service members, veterans, and their families; and an organization in New York City that will bolster a campaign for a city ordinance mandating a minimum number of sick days.
