Tax Policy Center Receives $5 Million to Enhance Research, Public Education

Tax Policy Center Receives $5 Million to Enhance Research, Public Education

The Urban Institute has announced a seven-year, $5 million grant from the Price Family Charitable Fund in support of the Tax Policy Center, a joint project of UI and the Brookings Institution.

The grant will be used to expand TPC's independent research on taxes and tax equity and to enhance its dissemination of timely information to policy makers, journalists, advocates, educators, and citizens through direct media contact, interactive features, and social media.

In recognition of Sol Price, the late founder of Price Club, co-founder of the Price Family Charitable Fund, and a trustee of the Urban Institute from 1994 to 2001, TPC will name Roberton Williams as its first Sol Price Fellow. Williams currently is a senior fellow at the Urban Institute, where he plays a primary role in TPC's research and communications efforts.

"Tax policy decisions over the next few years will have enormous effects on the country's future," said Williams. "Informed decisions during that critical time could strengthen the economy, promote fairness, and bring our fiscal imbalance under control. Uninformed decisions could set both the economy and struggling families further back. The Tax Policy Center will continue to do what we do best: provide impartial, fact-based analysis of tax issues to decision makers, the media, other policy analysts, and ordinary citizens who care about good policy."
