California Community Foundation Awarded $133 Million in Grants to Nonprofits

The California Community Foundation has announced that it awarded $133 million in grants to nonprofit organizations during the 2011-12 fiscal year, a 10 percent increase over the previous year's total.

Grants were awarded to organizations working in a variety of fields, including community development, health, arts, education, and the environment, with groups in Los Angeles County receiving more than $41.5 million. Roughly two-thirds of the total — $94.5 million — was awarded to nonprofits in the greater Los Angeles region.

Over the past decade, CCF has raised $1.8 billion in contributions from donors and distributed $1.34 billion in the form of grants, loans, scholarships, and fellowships.

"California Community Foundation is alone in creating and managing charitable funds and foundations for meaningful, strategic philanthropy by Los Angeles donors, and that directly benefit Los Angeles communities," said CCF president and CEO Antonia Hernández. "Assets entrusted to us by generations of donors provide us with the resources and flexibility to make long-term investments in priority areas of the foundation, fund new initiatives with community and foundation partners, and provide one-time grants or low-interest loans in response to critical needs or unusual opportunities."
