National Women's Law Center Receives $6 Million From Nokomis Foundation

The National Women's Law Center in Washington, D.C., has announced a $6 million gift from the Nokomis Foundation in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to create an endowment that will support the center's efforts to improve the lives of women and their families.

Announced at NWLC's fortieth anniversary dinner, the gift will provide general support for the center's ongoing activities, including programs addressing family economic security, education and employment opportunities, and health and reproductive rights. "We are thrilled to receive this gift," said NWLC co-president Nancy Duff Campbell, "which will ensure that the center will be able to continue expanding the possibilities for women and their families for years to come."

The Nokomis Foundation said it invested in the center because of a clear alignment between the center's work and the foundation's mission of creating a stronger voice and greater opportunity for women and families. "This partnership was an obvious choice for us," said the foundation's founder and board chair, Mary Caroline ("Twink") Frey. "The National Women's Law Center and Nokomis are working toward the same values of diversity, inclusiveness, creating opportunities for women in civic affairs, and creating the conditions for women to be economically self-sufficient, strong, and empowered."
