People in the News (11/18/12): Appointments and Promotions

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has announced the appointment of MARK DYBUL as executive director. Dybul, a medical doctor and recognized leader in the global health field, currently co-directs the Global Health Law Program at the O'Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown University, where he is also a Distinguished Scholar. Earlier, he served as United States Global AIDS Coordinator and helped create and then led the President's Emergency Program for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Dybul currently serves on the boards of a number of health-related organizations, including Malaria No More, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, the Children's Investment Fund Foundation, and the Global Business Coalition for Health.

The Pew Charitable Trusts have announced the appointment of MICHAEL DIMOCK as director of the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press. Dimock, a twelve-year Pew research veteran, has co-authored several of the center's research reports, including its examination of American political and social values and its polling reports from the last several presidential cycles. Earlier, he was a political science professor at North Carolina State University and appeared as a survey analyst on numerous media outlets. He succeeds ANDREW KOHUT.

The United Nations Foundation has announced the appointment of KATHY CALVIN as president, effective February 1. Calvin, a recognized social sector leader with corporate, political, media and public sector experience, is currently CEO of the foundation and has worked there for the past nine years. The foundation also announced that GRO BRUNDTLAND, former prime minister of Norway, will serve as board vice chair and will continue her role as executive committee chair; former U.S. senator TIMOTHY E. WIRTH, the foundation's first president, will serve as vice chair; FÁBIO BARBOSA, CEO of Brazil's Abril Group, will become chair of the foundation's finance committee; and NARAYANA MURTHY, founder and chair emeritus of Infosys Ltd., will continue to chair the foundation's audit committee.

Independent Sector has announced the election of DEBORAH ALVAREZ-RODRIGUEZ and JULIE FLOCH to its board. Alvarez-Rodriguez, president and CEO of Goodwill of San Francisco, San Mateo, and Marin County, earlier served as vice president of the Omidyar Foundation, director of San Francisco's Department of Children, Youth and Their Families (DCYF), and CEO of the Every Child Can Learn Foundation. Floch, a partner in the not-for-profit services group at law firm EisnerAmper, is an advisor to the Frances L. & Edwin L. Cummings Memorial Fund, a founding member of the Alliance for Nonprofit Governance, and served on the Internal Revenue Service's advisory committee on tax exempt and government entities.

In other news, the National Council for Research on Women has announced the appointment of ÁINE DUGGAN as president. Duggan, most recently vice president for research, policy, and education at the Food Bank for New York City, previously served as director of public education at the Coalition for the Homeless in New York and worked at the Irish Refugee Council and Cáirde, an Irish AIDS organization. She replaces LINDA BASCH, who has led the organization for sixteen years.
