Baptist Health System Receives $10 Million Endowment Gift

Baptist Health System in Florida has announced a $10 million endowment gift from J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver.

The largest donation in the system's 57-year history will help generate funding in perpetuity for programs in pediatric and adolescent behavioral health. In recognition of the gift, Baptist Health will name the new patient facility on its Jacksonville campus the J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver Tower. The facility, which will begin serving patients in December, is expected to significantly expand the services offered by Wolfson Children's Hospital and Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville.

The Weavers have supported numerous programs at Baptist Medical and Wolfson Hospital over the years. "Baptist Health has been one of our strategic partners from the moment we arrived in Jacksonville," the couple said in a statement. "With this gift, we are forming another strategic partnership, which we are certain will strengthen services for children and young adults who are battling behavioral health conditions. We are also hopeful it will launch advocacy efforts to remove the stigma from these conditions so they are looked upon in the same way as any other treatable illness."
