People in the News (11/04/12): Appointments and Promotions

Independent Sector has elected KELVIN TAKETA, president and CEO of the Hawai'i Community Foundation since 1998, as its board chair. Taketa, who joined the IS board in 2007, was serving as vice chair.

The Washington Women's Foundation has elected CASSANDRA MANUELITO-KERKVLIET, N. ELIZABETH (BETH) MCCAW, and MARY K. STEVENS to its board. Manuelito-Kerkvliet, president of Antioch University Seattle, is the first Native American woman president of an accredited university outside the tribal college system. McCaw, recognized by Best Lawyers in America in Non-Profit/Charities, is board president of the Rainier Club and serves on the board and executive committee of the YWCA of Seattle-King County-Snohomish County. Stevens is a community volunteer who serves as board vice president of Casa Latina, has chaired the Washington Women's Foundation's Pooled Fund Grant Committee, and has led the Committee Cabinet and the Innovation Grant Committee.

The Rhode Island Foundation has announced the addition of REBECCA E. DUPRAS to its development team as donor services and planned giving officer and WENDY LAWTON as senior development officer. An attorney, Dupras has focused on the areas of estate planning and probate administration; she also has served on the boards of the Women's Center of Rhode Island and the Providence YMCA. Lawton previously served as research development director at Lifespan, where she raised funds for basic, clinical, and behavioral research.

The Judd Foundation, which works to preserve artist Donald Judd's living and working spaces and promote his legacy, has announced the appointment of RAINER JUDD and FLAVIN JUDD, Judd's daughter and son, as co-presidents, effective January 2013. Rainer Judd will continue to oversee the foundation's oral history project, while Flavin Judd will continue to supervise art installations and deal with curatorial matters and architectural issues involving its buildings in New York and Marfa, Texas.

BETH PIRAINO has been appointed president of the National Kidney Foundation in New York City. Recognized as an NKF fellow for her service to the foundation on both local and national levels, Piraino is a professor of medicine and associate dean of admissions and financial aid at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
