Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Announces 2012 College Scholarship Recipients

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation in Lansdowne, Virginia, has announced the recipients of its 2012 College Scholarship Program.

Each of the fifty-eight recipients will receive financial support of up to $30,000 annually for four years of college, as well as mentoring, funding to pursue summer internship opportunities, and academic and social support services. This year's cohort of scholars includes Daniel Gonzalez of Maryland, who designed and built a pipe organ that he donated to a local school; Merilin Castillo of Massachusetts, who helped improve sex education in Boston's public schools; and Stella Wong of New York, who has won many piano, chamber music, and concerto competitions.

Over the past eleven years, the foundation has awarded some thirteen hundred scholarships worth an estimated $150 million to high school, college, and graduate students, and provided more than $81 million in grants to nonprofit organizations and institutions.

"The College Scholarship Program is one way we are helping support the next generation of leaders," said JKCF executive director Lawrence Kutner. "These are exceptional young men and women who have spent the past few years as part of our Young Scholars Program and have demonstrated that exceptional talent and drive can be found in students from all income levels."
