Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Announces 2012 Graduate Arts Award Winners

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation in Lansdowne, Virginia, has announced the winners of its Graduate Arts Awards for 2012.

Selected from a pool of a hundred and fifty-seven applicants, fifteen students or recent alumni with exceptional artistic or creative promise will receive up to $50,000 annually for as many as three years of study at an accredited graduate institution in the United States or abroad. The 2012 cohort of award winners includes a nonfiction writer, a documentary photographer, a new genre artist, and a violinist.

Over the past eleven years, the foundation has awarded nearly $150 million in scholarships to more than fifteen hundred students in all fields of study and provided more than $81 million in grants to nonprofit organizations and institutions.

"It's important to look beyond the current focus on math and science education," said Cooke Foundation executive director Lawrence Kutner. "We believe, in these difficult financial times, that it's also critical to support advanced study in the arts for those students who could not otherwise afford it."
