People in the News (10/07/12): Appointments and Promotions
The United Way of New York City has announced the appointment of SHEENA WRIGHT as president and CEO, effective mid-November. Wright, who formerly served on the organization's board, currently is president and CEO of the Abyssinian Development Corporation. Earlier, she served as general counsel and executive vice president of business development for Crave Technologies; as a senior associate at the law firm of Reboul, MacMurray, Hewitt, Maynard and Kristol; and as an associate at the law firm of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen and Katz. She will succeed GORDON J. CAMPBELL, who stepped down on September 1 after serving as president/CEO since 2007, and will be the first woman to lead the seventy-five-year-old organization.
The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation has announced the appointment of MARK NEWELL as director of its small grains breeding program. Newell, who joined the foundation in the spring of this year, finished his doctorate in small grains breeding at Iowa State University in 2011. His work at the foundation will focus on improving rye and oats for grazing lands.
The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace has announced the appointment of its president, JESSICA T. MATHEWS, as a member of the Harvard Corporation, the senior governing board of Harvard University. Mathews, an alumna and past trustee of Radcliffe College, has served for the past fifteen years as president of the Carnegie Endowment. In a message to the Harvard University community, Robert D. Reischauer, senior fellow of the corporation, and Harvard president Drew Faust noted Mathews' prominence in the field of international affairs, excellence in nonprofit leadership, and experience in government, policy, science, environmental affairs, and journalism.
The Boston Foundation has announced the appointments of JANE MENDILLO and PAUL GANNON to its board. Mendillo, president and CEO of the Harvard Management Company, served as chief investment officer of Wellesley College after fifteen years at HMC in various leadership positions. Gannon, a partner and chief operating officer at investment management firm Baupost Group, LLC, earlier served as chief financial officer for the Real Estate Group of Bank of Boston and was vice president of finance for a chain of home centers.
In other news, the T. Howard Foundation has named three television industry members to its board. The new appointees are WILLIAM S. KOENIG, executive vice president of business affairs and general counsel for NBA Entertainment and NBA TV; JOSEPH R. MOLKO, senior vice president of content distribution and marketing for Viacom Media Networks; and returning board member DOUGLAS HOLLOWAY, president of multi channel distribution at ION Media.
