Carnegie Corporation of New York Awards $30 Million in Fourth-Quarter Grants

The Carnegie Corporation of New York has announced fourth-quarter grants totaling more than $30 million to organizations working in the United States and around the world.

Grants awarded through the foundation's international program include $2.35 million over three years to the University of Ghana for postgraduate training and research programs that advance scholarship and improve the retention of African academics; $2 million over two years to the D.C.-based Eurasia Foundation to establish interdisciplinary research and training centers in the Caucasus; $997,900 over three years to the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) in Kampala, Uganda, to strengthen regional doctoral programs in African universities; and $303,000 over two years to the University of Pennsylvania to study the relationship between information and communication technologies and peace-building and state-building in Africa.

Grants awarded through the foundation's national program include $1.6 million over fifteen months to the University of Chicago to design and implement research and learning infrastructure for the 100Kin10 campaign; $1 million over two years to the New York City-based Computers for Youth Foundation to integrate the Next Generation Learning program into school design; and $600,000 over fifteen months to the University of Texas at Austin in support of the New Mathways project. The foundation also awarded $1 million over fifty-four months to the Asia Foundation and $500,000 over two years to the Research Foundation of the State University of New York through its special opportunities fund; and centennial grants to the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh ($1 million) and the New York City-based Foundation Center ($250,000).
