McKnight Foundation Awards $15 Million in Third-Quarter Grants

The Minneapolis-based McKnight Foundation has announced eighty-nine third-quarter grants totaling more than $15 million.

In addition to a dozen or so grants awarded to non-U.S. institutions and NGOs, the foundation awarded grants in support of a range of programs in Minnesota. For example, through its Minnesota Initiative Foundations and Education and Learning program areas, the foundation awarded $900,000 to the Minnesota Early Childhood Initiative to improve pre-K to third grade outcomes in the state. And it awarded $325,000 over two years to Duluth LISC to implement integrated housing and community development strategies in five distressed Duluth neighborhoods.

The foundation also announced the appointment of Perry Moriearty, associate professor of law at the University of Minnesota, to its board. Moriearty, who joined the university in 2008, teaches criminal law and race and the law, co-directs the Child Advocacy and Juvenile Justice Clinic, and publishes frequently in the areas of constitutional law, juvenile justice, criminal law, and race and the law.
