Oishei Foundation Awards $10 Million to Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo

The Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo has announced a $10 million gift from the John R. Oishei Foundation to help build a facility for specialized pediatric and women's healthcare services.

The new building, to be located on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, will be named after industrialist and philanthropist John R. Oishei, a native of Buffalo, who established the foundation in 1940. Plans for the ten-story hospital — scheduled to be completed in December 2015 — include facilities for a range of specialized pediatric care as well as a family resource center. In addition, a women's pavilion will house a labor and delivery, post-partum, prenatal, and perinatal care center, as well as a women's health center.

Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo, a Kaleida Health facility and teaching hospital affiliated with the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, is a regional center for comprehensive and state-of-the-art pediatric, neonatal, perinatal, and obstetrical services.

"This historic and unprecedented show of support by the John R. Oishei Foundation will ensure [that] families throughout western New York and beyond will continue to have immediate access to specialized pediatric and women's health services recognized as being among the best available in the United States," said Kaleida Health president and CEO James R. Kaskie. "Similar to how John R. Oishei sought the best technology available in his time to create the first automobile wiper blades and ultimately the Trico Products Corporation, the foundation that now bears his name and legacy will share its resources to make advanced technologies and care available today to improve the health and lives of families throughout our community."
