University of Michigan School of Art and Design Receives $32.5 Million Gift From Alumna

The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor has announced a $32.5 million gift to its School of Art and Design from alumna Penny W. Stamps and her husband, E. Roe.

The gift, the largest in the School of Art and Design's history, will be matched by $7.5 million from the university and will be used to provide ongoing support for programs and facilities on campus, as well as to establish Stamps Creative Work Scholarships for art and design students. In recognition of the gift, the school will be renamed the Penny W. Stamps School of Art and Design.

The couple has been making significant gifts to the university for more than a decade, including funding for the Penny Stamps Distinguished Speaker Series, the Roman J. Witt Residency program, and the Roman J. Witt Visitors program, as well as for WorkAnn Arbor, a gallery space that provides undergraduate students with opportunities to exhibit their work.

"It has been very rewarding for us to be a part of A&D's growth and development during these past fifteen years," said Penny Stamps. "We have been pleased to see our investments in the school make a compelling difference to the school's excellence and prominence, and our involvement has escalated as a result. We are enormously proud of the programs we support and want to ensure that they continue to benefit students for generations."
