North Texas Giving Day Raises $14.4 Million for Local Nonprofits

North Texas Giving Day Raises $14.4 Million for Local Nonprofits

The Communities Foundation of Texas has announced that this year's North Texas Giving Day on September 13 raised $14.4 million for local nonprofits.

Over a seventeen-hour period, donors from fourteen countries and every state in the United States contributed a total of 37,858 gifts in support of nine hundred-plus nonprofits through the foundation's DonorBridge Web platform. Donation totals surpassed last year's results by 35 percent, or some $3.7 million, while the total number of donations increased 180 percent on a year-over-year basis.

A number of special prizes also were awarded in conjunction with the event. The 1929th donation prize ($10,000) awarded by the Dallas Foundation in honor of the year it was founded was given to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, while United Through H.O.P.E. received the 2012th donation prize (also funded by the Dallas Foundation). In addition, "Golden Ticket" prizes in the amount of $1,000 were awarded hourly during the event to randomly selected charities. Recipients included Heroes for Children, the North Texas Food Bank, Girls on the Run, the University of Dallas, and Meals on Wheels Inc. of Tarrant County. Prize awards were supported by a number of partners, including Hunt Consolidated's Hunt Cares Campaign, the Communities Foundation of Texas, Lyda Hill, the Simmons Family Foundation Advised Fund of the Dallas Foundation, the Community Foundation of North Texas, and the Meadows, Dallas, Rees-Jones, Hoblitzelle, and Sid Richardson foundations.

"We are absolutely blown away by the record-breaking generosity and goodwill of North Texans," said Communities Foundation of Texas president and CEO Brent Christopher, who also created the DonorBridge platform and the North Texas Giving Day event. "This is a testament to the strength of our community and our shared desire to make North Texas the most viable, best place to live. We are humbled to say the least."

“North Texans Topple Previous North Texas Giving Day Records by Donating 37,800 Gifts Totaling $14.4 Million to 900+ North Texas Nonprofits.” Communities Foundation of Texas Press Release 9/14/12.
