The Gulf Coast Community Foundation in Venice has named Jon Thaxton as its director of community investment. Thaxton will work part-time in that position until his term as Sarasota County Commissioner ends in November.
The Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County has increased its distributions to local schools and other early education programs in the area, WFIU reports. With funding from the foundation's Early Childhood Education Initiative, which is focused on low-income children who do not qualify for programs such as Head Start, three new preschool classes were added.
The Boston-based Equality Fund has received $250,000 from the Boston Foundation, the EDGE reports. Established last month by the foundation, the fund was developed in partnership with LGBTQ leaders, their straight allies, and prospective donors and will be led by an advisory committee co-chaired by Greater Boston Food Bank president and CEO Catherine D'Amato and Scott Squillace, Esq., principal founder of Squillace & Associates P.C. Estate Planning Law Firm.
The Kalamazoo Foundation has announced that Ann Fergemann, who has worked for twenty-five years at the foundation, including the last five as a vice president, has taken on a new role focused on donor engagement and stewardship. The foundation also announced that donor relations officer Joanna Dales has been named vice president of donor relations.
The Omaha Foundation has announced that it will match 10 percent of gifts up to $1,000 for people who open new accounts with the foundation by December 15. The incentive match is supported by gifts from the Carmen and John Gottschalk and William and Ruth Scott Family foundations.
The Cabarrus County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Charlotte-based Foundation for the Carolinas, has announced that it is accepting applications for its 2012 grants program. Awards will be made to programs that focus on arts and culture, workforce development, domestic violence, emergency services, housing and hunger services, and youth and senior services. Grants will be awarded through an online application process which requires that organizations register on the FFTC Web site. Completed applications must be submitted by noon on October 5.
The Community Foundation of Utah in Salt Lake City has announced the creation of a scholarship tailored to the needs of young adults who have lived with the challenge of having a parent incarcerated. Established with local plumber Karl "Willy" Wisness, who spent seventeen years in Utah prisons, the scholarship aims to help the children of incarcerated individuals understand how and where to access funds that can help them achieve their higher education dreams.
